Palma Cathedral

The Cathedral of Light, also known as La Seu Cathedral, dates from the 14th century. It is one of the city's most prominent structures and a must-see.

A Moorish mosque was demolished to build the cathedral. It is 121 meters long and 55 meters wide, with a nave nearly 40 meters tall. It was built in the Catalan Gothic style with Northern European influences. Although King James I began it in 1229, it was not completed until 1601. The cathedral is built on top of the former citadel of a Roman city, which is now part of Palma's old city. It views the Mediterranean Sea and the "Parc de la Mar."

Over 60 stained-glass windows adorn its walls. This building's main rose window, filled with colored light, is one of its most spectacular features.

Some of the cathedral's tall pillars are made of some of the strongest materials. A hurricane in 1851 severely damaged the structure's western wall, despite the sturdy buttresses supporting its roof. Architect Antoni Gaud restored the interior of the cathedral in 1901. He successfully added a canopy and a chandelier, but he abandoned the project in 1914, and the building now reflects a variety of styles.

Cathedral hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2.15 p.m. on Saturdays. The cathedral offers tours in both Spanish and English. They are scheduled every Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. A ticket costs €9, or €7 for those over the age of 65. The cost of a guided tour is € 25 per person.

You can easily get to the cathedral by taking the Metro or Bus. These lines have stops nearby.

Caves of Genova

The caves were discovered in 1906 while digging an underground well. They are part of a group of calcareous caves formed by natural routes and located in Palma de Mallorca's municipality. The cave tour is nearly a kilometer long on foot. It reaches a depth of 36 meters.

The caves are full of exciting features like pools of water, columns, and rock formations. The caves also feature an audiovisual show. They are also known to have many rare and unusual speleothems coralloides species.

Although the temperature inside the caves is cool and humid all year, people with claustrophobia may find it difficult to enter due to the lack of natural light. Inside the caves, there is also a restaurant serving local cuisine.

The Genova Caves are usually open from late morning to mid-afternoon but occasionally open at night on certain days. The cave restaurant is well-known for its Mediterranean cuisine. It offers a variety of fish and grilled meat dishes.

The caves are approximately 5 miles from Palma. Bus number 46 is the most direct route to get there. Follow the signs from the city center, and parking is free.

Bellver Castle

The Bellver Castle is a magnificent Gothic structure perched on a hill overlooking Palma. It is open to the public, and parking is free. This castle provides panoramic views of the Bay of Palma and the Tramuntana mountains. Its gardens are full of sculptures and fountains.

For many years, the castle had served as a prison. This is where Jaume III's sons and widow were imprisoned. It's one of Spain's most unusual round structures, built by Jaume II in 1300. Pere Salva, the architect of the Almudaina Palace, designed this castle.

The castle's central courtyard is surrounded by three towers surrounding a freestanding keep. This space is divided into two levels and has Gothic and semi-circular arches. Walking around the moat, you can get a better view of the castle. The Catalan word for "beautiful view" is Bellver Castle.

A museum is located in the central courtyard. It displays artifacts from various periods, including the Roman, Spanish, and Arab periods, to better understand Palma's history. You can also visit the castle's old kitchen, which has been black-smoke-painted.

The Bellver Castle is open throughout the year. It is open from April to September from 8:30 to 13:00, Tuesday through Saturday from 9:30 to 16:00, and on holidays. From October to March, 10:00 to 18:00, and 10:00 to 15:00 on Sundays.

A ticket to the Bellver Castle costs €4, but it is reduced to €2 for children (14 to 18 years old) and pensioners. Sundays and children under the age of 14 are free. You can get to Bellver Castle by taxi or car. Alternatively, you can take a bus to Placa Gomila. You can reach the castle by climbing up through the pine forests after passing through a chapel.
